BIOGRAPHY

Deep-voiced Josh Turner burst on the country scene in 2003 with the powerful “Long Black Train,” a song Turner had written after listening to Hank Williams Sr.. Sounding like gospel-blues out of the 1940s, “Long Black Train” wrestles with the grand themes of temptation, salvation, death, and redemption – and the song quickly brought Turner national media attention. His first album, Long Black Train, produced by Frank Rogers, was released by MCA in 2003. Prior to the album’s release, Turner had issued two 7″ vinyl singles, “She’ll Go on You” and “Long Black Train,” both with the B-side “Backwoods Boy.” A second album on MCA, Your Man, was released in 2006 and reached Number Two on the Top 200. The title track topped the country charts and experienced an unexpected revival in 2011 when American Idol champion Scotty McCreery performed it during his audition. The impressive Everything Is Fine appeared in 2007, again from MCA Nashville. In 2010, Turner released his fourth album, Haywire, with its first two singles as its opening cuts: “Why Don’t We Just Dance” and “I Wouldn’t Be a Man.” It was followed by Punching Bag (2012), whose lead-off single, “Time Is Love,” was the biggest hit of 2012. He dropped the album Deep South in 2017. Josh Turner continues to tour the country.
