He’s the rule breaker. Rodney Carrington has managed to break most of the rules that are traditionally associated with comedians, the recording industry and country music in general. Despite that, or perhaps because of it, Rodney’s CDs are some of the best selling in history. Born and raised in Longview, Texas, Carrington looks and sounds like a stereotypical country singer. His edgy material, however, definitely breaks the rules of your typical family-oriented country artist. No, he is not a “country comedian” in the vein of a Jeff Foxworthy or Bill Engval. Carrington talks and sings about subject matter that had previously never seen the light of day on a country record label. His first major label release on Mercury Nashville in 1998 “Hangin’ With Rodney” required an explicit lyrics sticker. It was a monster success. More recently, in 2014, Rodney released the album, “Laughter’s Good.” Rodney Carrington is hilarious, and he will probably make you want to break some rules.
